2010 Glennie Nature Interclub Exhibition
Early this spring our club received an invitation from the Merrimack Valley Camera Club in North Andover, MA, to participate in the 2010 Glennie Nature Interclub Exhibition. The GCC Board granted approval for the club to once again participate in this prestigious Nature photographic exhibition (we participated in 2008 and 2009). Our club responded with 19 members submitting 71 outstanding images. Submission rules required that a club could submit no more that 10 images ... and our selection committee was faced with a most difficult challenge of cutting 61 images in order to meet the 10 image submission limit.
The Glennie committee announced that the participation this year increased to 111 camera clubs worldwide. This included clubs from the Eastern United States, Canada, Western Europe, as well as Australia, New Zealand, and South America. The number of images submitted this year also increased to 1100, and were spread over the following nine Nature categories: Birds, Invertebrates, Reptiles, Amphibians, Mammals, Marine & Freshwater Life, Botany, Landscapes, and Close-ups.
The Glennie competition results have been announced: The GCC improved its performance from last year, especially when measured by the increased worldwide competition. The members representing the GCC with their selected images included: Bill Hamm, Nikhil Bahl, Judy MacArthur, Barbara Statas, Don Johnson, Alan Zipp, Tom Statas, Larry Dean, Sabine Dickens, and George Haney. Two of these members received Merit Awards for their images - Nikhil Bahl for his Heron holding two fish in the Heron division of the Bird Category, and Sabine Dickens for her Colorado Columbine flower in the Botany category. The club received a 5th Place (Tie) Award for the new Diversity Award, which was based on the highest image scores in seven out of the nine Nature categories mentioned above. Our club also received a total score of 223 points (up from 210 awarded last year) out of 300 points total. However, no club reached that score. The top club awarded score was 246 points, and we were in the upper 27% of the camera clubs that participated with 29 clubs scoring higher than us, and 81 clubs scoring lower.
Congratulations to those members who represented the GCC and special congratulations to Nikhil Bahl and Sabine Dickens for their Merit Award recognitions. A slide show of the ten entries submitted by GCC members is featured below. The winning images from this competition as well as our two Merit Award winners can be viewed on the Merrimack Valley Camera Club web site. Please note that the name of this competition has been changed to the George Glennie Memorial Nature Salon.
